What is “Sound Doctrine?

What is “Sound Doctrine”? The problem that we face when dealing with this question is that the religious community has defined it in a way that convolutes the answer. In other words, the system teaches that Sound Doctrine is somewhat relative.

The World View of Sound Doctrine:

“Sound doctrine is important because our faith is based on a specific message. The overall teaching of the church contains many elements, but the primary message is explicitly defined: “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures [and] . . . he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. This is the unambiguous good news, and it is “of first importance.

Our eternal destiny depends upon hearing “the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Sound doctrine is important because the gospel is a sacred trust, and we dare not tamper with God’s communication to the world. Our duty is to deliver the message, not to change it. ”

The worldview paradigm interesting enough, seems to contradict itself. Here is how the worldview is deceptive. Just because a point presented is factual, does not make it sound doctrine. For example, gotquestions.com stated the following:

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures [and] . . . he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.

This statement is true and it is a correct biblical principle. However, when you combine it with other incorrect interpretations or statements, the doctrine is no longer Sound Doctrine. For example, there are people that teach that it is not necessary to be baptized because a ritualistic act cannot save you. While they may still believe that “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures [and] . . . he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures”, the false statement that they made about baptism makes their entire doctrine not sound.

The Father is just, and he will give every man the opportunity to hear the gospel before they are judged.

Why is it important for us to rediscover the ancient ways in order to have sound doctrine? There is nothing that is more ancient than the Father, who created all things through the Son. Looking back throughout biblical history, the Father was the first to give his instructions to the world by way of Moses. Moses was not just responsible for preserving the writings of the Father, but he also held the keys of correct interpretation. We must always remember that the word of God becomes vain when it does not have the correct interpretation to go along with it. While the bible has stayed the same, it is because of different human interpretations that we now have thousands of religious denominations. Malachi 3:6 said that the Father changes not! Therefore, his scriptures are the same and the interpretation of those scriptures have not been modernized to fit man’s needs in the 21st century.

Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense to vanity, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up;- Jeremiah 18:15

Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.- Jeremiah 6:16

Moses was responsible with preserving the writings, putting them in the book, and seeing to it that the New Testament saints received the scriptures many years later. After the death of Moses, the Father continued to set up Chief Shepherds over the flock that was responsible for keeping his ancient ways. In other words, God did not want his sound doctrine to get tainted. The scriptures were not and still are not open for personal interpretations.  The New Testament saints had the exact same sound doctrine, which was passed down from Moses (ancient ways). This is what gave them the advantage (Romans 3:1-3). It is very important to note, that while other Jews had possession of the scriptures, they did not have sound doctrine because the correct interpretation that was to be applied with the scriptures were not divine interpretations.

What makes a doctrine sound is that its principle originated from Father; received divine interpretation from the prophets, was accepted by Christ and carried out by the Apostles. We can look at just two points in the bible to determine if we are on the correct path to receiving sound doctrine. In Exodus 16:26, it stated that the seventh day is the Sabbath Day. It also said that the Sabbath day must be observed throughout our generations for a perpetual covenant (Exodus 31:16). This is an ancient principle given by God. However, men today say that the Sabbath day has either been abolished or that Sunday is the new Sabbath Day. Isaiah 66:23 discredits man’s interpretation by letting us know that the Sabbath Day, the way it was originated will be kept in the New heaven and the New Earth.

22 For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the Lord, so shall your seed and your name remain.23 And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the Lord.-Isaiah 66:22-23

Here are just a few more verses that makes this principle sound doctrine:

  • God gave this commandment as a Covenant, and he does not break his covenants. (Psalms 89:34)
  • The Sabbath was given to the Children of Israel first, and it is their responsibility to give it to the world. (Genesis 28:14; Romans 9:4; Romans 1:6)
  • Christ, who is our perfect example celebrated the 7th day Sabbath. (Luke 4:16; Hebrews 13:8)
  • Apostle Paul celebrated the 7th day Sabbath just as Christ did. (Acts 7:2)
  • The 7th day Sabbath will be kept in the New Heaven and New Earth. (Isaia 66:22-23)
