NOT OF THIS WORLD: WAS CHRIST HUMAN?

by Al Penner

It’s hard to image seeing someone with humanlike features and yet not be considered human. Throughout the Bible (for those that have really read or studied it) there are many referencesAlien made about people who interacted with others which were not considered human beings. So, was Christ himself a human being? When people think of aliens, they tend to think of characters that we see in Hollywood. These are Martian-like and/or green creatures with big eyes that appear in movies such as E.T.

For those that pay close attention to stories told within the Bible, it is apparent that aliens have visited us, but what is an alien? Webster’s Dictionary defines an alien as “not familiar or like other things you have known: too different from something to be acceptable or suitable.”

Angels appeared unto man throughout the Bible. These angels were not like the ones that we see depicted in drawings; glowing about the face and having great big white wings. These angels looked exactly like humans. This is how they were able to relate to humans without scaring the hell out of them! From the book of Genesis to Revelation, the Bible speaks of angels interacting with man. In Hebrews 13:2 it states, “Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!” This means that the angels were so similar to humans, that observing them with the naked eye or interacting with them, the people were unable to tell the difference between them and human beings.

Angels Visit Abraham

In Genesis 18th chapter, Abraham was visited by three people, one appearing to be the Lord in the flesh. (Genesis 18:1) These angles interacted with both Abraham and Sarah and later on two of the angles continued on to the city of Sodom. Genesis 18:16,22; Genesis 19:1)

Angels Visit Lot

testament-3In the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah two angels appeared unto Lot. These angels appeared in human like form of course because Lot spoke about them eating, resting and washing their feet. The men that came to the door of Lot desiring to have relations with Lot’s visitors (the angels) were made blind by the angels themselves. (v.11)

It is difficult for most people to understand these stories within the Bible, because many times, they will see the word “man” instead of the word angel.

And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him…” Genesis 18:2.

The word “men or man” does not mean that it was a human being, it is describing a type of species. This is also a difficult concept for many to believe, especially since every person that we know is a human being.

With the coming of Christ being delivered from the womb of a human woman, it is inconceivable for most to accept the notion that Christ himself was not a human-being. While this seems like something straight from a science fiction novel, we have to use the facts that are given from the Bible.

People who attempt to reason this topic conclude that Christ was 100% human and 100% divine. This would make him 200%. If you buy a dog and someone tells you that the dog is 100% German shepherd, this means that he cannot be mixed with anything else. It’s easy to attempt to explain this phenomenon, however, one’s explanation must be backed up by proof and not by their own logic or understanding.

Joseph and Mary had not yet come together sexually

Joseph wanted to put Mary away because they had not yet come together to consummate their marriage, so Christ was conceived by what we call today “Artificial Insemination”:

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together (had sexual relations), she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. 9 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. (Matthew 1:18-19)

Christ was made lower than the angels

Christ was made lower than the angels so that he could experience temptation, human like feelings, and suffering unto death. (Hebrews 2:9; 4:15) All humans are with sin (John 1:8; Romans 3:23); however, the Bible says that Christ was tempted in ALL POINTS, LIKE AS WE ARE, YET WITHOUT SIN.

21 For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered [a] for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps. 22 He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. – 1 Peter 2:21-22

This is in contrast to what the bible explains about man and sin. Romans 3:23 said For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Christ of course was the exception to the rule. What made him different? What about 1 John 1:8 which said “ If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us?” This was referring to all Humans. Even King David, the one that will be resurrected and rule over all of God’s people (Jeremiah 30:9), was found with sin! 2 Samuel 11

The Bible Never Called Him Human

While Christ walked on the Earth, talked, and ate with man and even felt lonely, the Bible states that he came in the LIKENESS of sinful flesh. This means that he looked human and he 602856-human-bodybehaved humanly. When Isaiah 9:6 prophesized of his coming he said, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” Is it possible for a human being to be called “The Everlasting Father?.”

Out of His Own Mouth

Although Christ came from the womb of Mary, he confessed that he was an alien. No, he didn’t say that he was the cousin of E.T. or anything like that, but Christ stated out of his own mouth that he was not of this world.

“21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. 22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? Because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come. 23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

Up Up and Away!!

asencion5Before Superman was even thought of, Christ ascended into heaven when his work on Earth was complete. Unlike human bodies that go back to the dirt in which it came from (Ecclesiastes 3:20), his body ascended into the sky and the Bible tells us that he is sitting on the right hand of the Father. (Mark 16:19) His flesh was not human flesh, nor was the blood that was shed for man human blood. Human blood cannot save man, but his blood was able to (Isaiah 53:1-5; Hebrews 9:22). Furthermore, flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. 1 Corinthians 15:50

Taking on a Heavenly body

When man leaves this world and is granted entrance into the kingdom of heaven, the word of God tells us that we will be changed and that we will take on a new body:

For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies.[a] 4 While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. 5 God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit. 2 Corinthians 5:1-5

1 Corinthians 15:40 calls these bodies “celestial “bodies. By definition a celestial body is any natural body outside of the Earth’s atmosphere. These bodies do not decay, get sick or are subject to the many aliments that we experience in our earthly, or terrestrial bodies.

While the Bible gives every indication that Christ was not a human being but a Celestial being, many people will have a tough time digesting this pill, especially since everyone that we know (to our knowledge) has been an earthly being, meaning they had both a biological mother and father.
