Did God Create All Languages?

country-flags globeAmong the many doctrines that have been fabricated by religious leaders, and blamed on God, is the belief that God created all languages.   Even though there is no scriptural basis for such a position, this doctrine thrives because many students of the Bible teach it despite their lack of proof.  There are a few arguments that you will typically hear, that are offered as proof that God created all languages.

Argument #1  Some believers argue that God created all languages at the Tower of Babel – Genesis 11: 1- 9. Yet there is not a shred of evidence verifying that God created all languages. There is evidence that he confounded (confused) the ONE LANGUAGE spoken by the people. Language is a means of communication which men had to develop in order to communicate. Once the Father confused the one language, man developed their own means of communication, thus, this was the beginning of the development of languages. The word “confounded” means to confuse; therefore God confused the one language they spoke.

Tower_of_BabelArgument #2  Others argue that the Spirit of God spoke in the tongues of the people from every nation on the day of Pentecost. However, the Bible contends that the people of every nation spoke in the language of the Galileans, saying,  7  “Are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8  How hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?”   Acts 2: 7- 8.

Argument #3 Many submit that Isaiah 28:11 suggests that God created all of the languages of the earth, when he entertained using “stammering lips and another tongue” to speak unto the people. The New Living Translation bible reads this way: “So now God will have to speak to his people through foreign oppressors who speak a strange language!”

Since the people of God were rebellious and would not hear his voice through his prophets, they were now going to obey the commands of their oppressor in a strange language. The fulfilling of the curse of captivity and oppression which was spoken of by the Father will now be fulfilled.

Today, it is necessary for man to hear the Gospel in all languages, because his people will be spread throughout the entire world but the belief that God created all languages for this purpose is not true. It was man that created the languages of their nations, and it was man who was responsible for translating the Bible into those languages.  The bible tells us that everything that the Father does, create or establishes is Holy. (Psalms 145:17). If he would have created all languages, that would have made all languages holy.

WHAT HISTORY PROVES ABOUT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE?

historyThe English language is a result of the invasions of the island of Britain over many hundreds of years. The invaders lived along the northern coast of Europe.

The first invasions were by a people called Angles about one thousand five hundred years ago. The Angles were a German tribe who crossed the English Channel. Later two more groups crossed to Britain. They were the Saxons and the Jutes.

These groups found a people called the Celts, who had lived in Britain for many thousands of years. The Celts and the invaders fought. After a while, most of the Celts were killed, or made slaves. Some escaped to live in the area that became Wales. Through the years, the Saxons, Angles and Jutes mixed their different languages. The result is what is called Anglo-Saxon or Old English.

This type of historical evidence can be found for nearly all languages. The historical evidence itself proves that languages were established by men and not by God.

This simply means that since the Father created the Hebrew people as well as the Hebrew language (Genesis 12:2; Exodus 3:18), this is the only holy language that exist. One important fact remains; there are certain names in the Bible that should have remained in its original tongue (language) because there were everlasting agreements (also known as covenants) that were made with these names which came from heaven!
