Operating Within the Law of Things

by Nate Hunter

Religion puts many limitations on God, in other words, through religion; it is impossible to fully understand the Father or Christ. One limitation of religion is that God can only be understood through the lens of what has been explained through the teachings of that particular religion. So instead of understanding the Bible from God’s perspective, you will now understand it from the perspective of the religious denominations or its founders.  For a believer in Christianity, God is the creator of the universe, but he is not necessarily understood in those terms. For example, most Christians only understand God as a savior and not as a creator who operates through laws. If we understand that the universe was created by God and operates within the laws of God, we can understand why anything or anyone operating outside of his law causes chaos.  If I were to ask any adult why is it important not to smoke and drink every day, they smokerwould overwhelmingly state that smoking destroys the lungs and drinking destroys the liver. The body then would not be able to operate in its normal capacity because the individual ignored the God given rules for the body to operate properly. If I were to ask why is murder an absolute law in all civilized countries, we all could agree it is ethically and morally wrong, but worst of all it causes chaos. Not having laws cause nothing but devastation, destruction and chaos, and God the creator of laws is not the author of confusion neither is he anti-law especially against his laws.

The God who created a moral and ethical law in the Bible for human behavior is the same God who created the laws of thermodynamics, physics, mathematics, chemistry etc. God should not only be understood by what is found in John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life, but through all of his creation. gravity5Imagine for a second if some of these natural laws began to operate outside of the law or system God created. Take gravity for example, it keeps the atmosphere, water, humans and everything else held down so that it would not float into space. Think of the chaos and destruction of all life on earth (humans, animals, insects and aquatic life) if the laws of gravity did not exist. All living things would die because the oxygen within the gases of the atmosphere would immediately float into space, causing the loss of all life forms due to suffocation just because gravity didn’t want to operate within the law of God. The Sun’s gravitational pull allows the planets to orbit around it. If gravity were turned off the planets and the stars would separate or fly apart, once again causing destruction and chaos. If he controls the entire universe by laws there has to be a God given law for the entire way of life for man especially the children of God.

Most Christians understand the principle that all things must be done in decency and order, but this is not true as it pertains to the law of God found within the Bible. A foundational principle of Christianity is that Christians do not have to observe the law of God given by hqdefaultMoses, but they have to keep the law of Christ, which is love. Since Christ kept the law perfectly, they (Christians) are now exempt from keeping something that God in the flesh kept. They also miss the point that Christ was only sinless because he operated within the laws of God continually. Sin is the transgression (violation) of the law according to 1 John 3:4, which is committed by breaking the laws of God. Romans 6:23 states the wages of sin is death, therefore if sin can be equated to death, then sin can be classified as dysfunctional, destructive, and chaotic. If keeping the law of God keeps you away from death, dysfunction and chaos, it should not be viewed or taught as something that is bad or something that is a curse if you obey it. Besides, Satan and human beings are the only creation of God’s to make a philosophy of why his complete law for man is destructive and a curse. Imagine if your child said, “Mom you have perfectly cleaned my room there is no need for me to clean it!” The child would be swiftly disciplined and reminded why they must continually follow their parent’s rules and examples of cleaning their own room. If God can be equated to love then his law for man has to be an expression of that love that he is.

BIG-QIn our world today, morality and ethics are constantly changing, therefore, God’s law within the Bible for human behavior is subject to change. For example, in the past, homosexuality and wanting to escape slavery (Drapetomania) were considered as mental illnesses, but today, it is accepted as a norm. God, (unlike human beings) has the knowledge and understanding to create laws that transcend time and space without allowing prejudice to influence him. So, his eternal laws within the Bible are as unchangeable as the natural laws of the universe. Either God is a universal lawgiver or he’s nothing more than a savior who allows man to determine his own way of life. As true followers of Christ, true ethics and morality cannot exist outside of the mind and will of God for humans, which are called his law. Christ stated whoever commits sin is the servant of sin, he stated this foundational principle knowing full well he would die on the cross. Therefore, regardless of Christ’s work on the cross our present and future actions either place us in a destructive and chaotic state or they will give us life and peace.
