5 Reasons Prayer Is Still Needed In Schools

I am having the hardest time adjusting to my kids being in the church and teaching them what is right. The world looks really good and the influence in it is so much more interesting to these kids than another night at church. It is so tough when everyone around them are telling them that things that are wrong are okay, but boring mom is telling them they can’t eat whatever they want. I received a call from one of my kid’s teacher saying that my kid was talking back in class and I almost lost my mind! I couldn’t believe that my kid would act this way in school.

Maybe this subject has truly touched me because I am from Chicago and I have seen the menaces kids that are in Chicago Public Schools. I know it isn’t just Chicago. Kids have lost their minds everywhere and I will say it because I know you are thinking it……Some of these kids need hands laid on them…for prayer and for other reasons!

Because of this, I have come up with 5 reasons why we need to have prayer back in schools:

Prayer Unites People

prayer

People spend a lot of time debating on how we need to separate church and state, why we shouldn’t force “religious beliefs” on others in schools…etc. etc. However, so many other agendas are being forced upon kids in school that are not as positive as prayer can be. I mean really, how much longer can we keep telling kids that Christopher Columbus discovered America???? Okay, maybe that doesn’t fully illustrate my point, I just wanted to say it…..but I remember a time when prayer was something positive. It made people feel hope. It helped people to feel safe and secure. Why has it become something negative?

Kids are fighting teachers now

Seriously! I have seen way too many videos of teachers being forced to defend themselves because kids are attacking them. I recently saw a video that I wouldn’t post here (because it is very explicit) butstun-1 this kid refused to leave the teacher’s classroom when he asked and he just kept disrupting the class. This teacher did EVERYTHING possible to try and restrain this kid but the kid wanted to fight. The teacher was forced to defend himself and now the parents want the teacher fired. Unbelievable!

Honor your father and your mother

dishonor parentsWhat happened to this? I remember a time where you couldn’t even look at your mother the wrong way. Not only would your mother kick your butt, but your neighbor, the bus driver on the way to school, the crossing guard would get in on some of the action right before they helped you cross the street up to the school to meet the teacher, and then the principal….only to send you back home so your daddy could tear you up after work!

Now the kids are cussing out their mommas, teachers, nurses, nuns, rabbi’s, priests and whomever else they want to and the world protects them! Not every butt whooping is abuse in my opinion….which leads me to……

Spare the rod, spoil the child

nun-smacks-childSince we can’t pray in school anymore we definitely can’t have the teacher take out that meter stick and tap the back of those hands like they used to! I wonder if the school dropout rate would be lower if teachers/coaches/disciplinarians could still discipline in schools (and again still send them home to get some more for homework). Even the sisters in Catholic schools had their way of disciplining their kids after a few Hail Mary’s. Now the kids will bring their mothers back up to the school to fight Sister Mary Clarence if she pulls out the meter stick to tap those fingers….and the momma will fight Sister Mary Clarence too! If that isn’t evidence of spoiled kids I don’t know what is.

Kids are fearless

And not in the good way……There was a time when if you acted up in school all the teacher had to say was “Imma call yo’ momma up here” and not only would that kid act right but the rest of the class would straighten up too! You knew momma would come up there in her robe and hair curlers in a minute.

I bet if I had started acting up back in kindergarten and my teacher had said “Don’t let me call your daddy….” I would have been so good that I would have had straight A’s all through Grammar School, indexHigh School, and college and would have never said another word.

Nowadays, many kids are only 12 years younger than their parents. They don’t fear their parents anymore because they are all out kicking it together. We have almost completely lost the parents who are not afraid to love their kids enough to allow them to fear them.  Fear does not have to be a bad thing…it is a RESPECT thing. There was a time when we would put some “RESPECK” on momma and daddy!!!

What happened to the parents who would say “Oh I’m about to put the fear of God in you???” I didn’t even know what that meant…I just knew I didn’t want NONE of that! Proverbs 9:10 says “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” If you can’t even get them to fear the Lord, it’s a downhill battle after that.

What are some of the things that you have noticed have changed since prayer has been taken out of schools? Do you even see a change?

I would like to know! Leave your thoughts on prayer in schools.
